Jim's Travels

While we were living at Hass Drive, Jim came to live with us. we had to put all the kids in one room. He smoked so much that we decided he needed a place of his own. We got him an apartment by the drive-in. It was really nice and he had new furniture. He started to complain that he didn't like it there. He decided that he was going back to New Mexico and live with his brother, Hyde, on the Pace Ranch. We knew that he couldn't drive down there by himself. We put all his furtniture and belongings in his truck and sent him down there on a plane. Kaye and I drove his stuff down to Virden. It ook us 3 days. When we got there, Jim said, "I think I'll go back with you." Bill said, "No way, you stay here a while. You don't have a place to live. You gave up your apartment." Kaye and I flew home.

A few weeks later, I was a at a dental meeting in Los Angeles when I got a call from Jim who was in a little town near LA. He wanted me to meet him and drive him home. I met him and drove him home. He moved in a shack that Monty Hess had. It was crummy. I finally bought him a mobiel home in Santa Cruz on 7th Avenue. He liked that and stayed there until he couldn't stay alone. He finally had to go to a convalescent home. He stayed there until he fell and broke his hip.
