Senior Year

I was elected Student Body President my Senior Year. It meant I had to be in charge of all the Senior activities. That was a big job for me and every time there was a problem I had to go see Dean Toccini and take care of the problems. He was a very tough Dean.

One of the responsibilities of mine was to organize the formal dinner dance of the year honoring the seniors. It was to be held at a nice hotel. All of the students and faculty were invited. The hotel and orchestra had to be reserved a year ahead. I reserved a new hotel called the Thunderbird Hotel by the San Francisco Airport. I planned the dinner menu. I reserved the band and the flowers. My whole senior year my stomach was in knots because I kept hearing rumors that the Thunderbird Hotel was going out of business. I kept asking them and they denied it. If they did it would be too late to reserve another hotel. They stayed in business. Kaye and I rented a room there to stay all night. The hotel was lovely, the dinner was great and the dance was nice.

The next morning I heard a cranking around outside of our room. I went out and I saw a tow truck pulling a sofa out of the swimming pool. Kaye and I were checking out and our room was free because I had organized the party. I heard these employees talking behind the desk about some dental students who had sprayed the halls with fire extinguishers, broke some glass and threw the couch into the swimming pool during the night. They said the manager was going to go to the dean to make them pay for the damage. I asked them who did it. There were two seniors and one junior. The seniors were Bennigh, a physician's son, and Geen, a dentists son and Green, a junior. I knew the Dean wouldn't let them graduate if he hear about this. I told them I would have the students come down and pay the bill. I called the students and told them to get down to the hotel and pay for the damages or the Dean would have kicked them out of school. They went down and took care of it immediately.
