We had some really fun times with great neighbors in Alamo. The Petraukas family and the Brownell family both had swimming pools. They were great about having Cathy and Cindy over to swim during the summer. Arlene Petrauskas got a swimming instructor to come to her pool every week and all the kids in the neighborhood learned to swim there. We had lots of parties at each others houses in the neighborhood. We had a very formal party for New Year's at the Petrauskas'. The women all wore long dresses and the guys all wore suits. We had all kind of barbecues and get togethers.
One Halloween I made a haunted house in the garage for the kids. It scared a lot of the kids. We had a mummy, scary sounds, we blind folded them at a certain point and had them walk the plank. We told them it was way up in the air, but it was only about 10 inches off the ground. They had to put their hands in a bowl with spaghetti and grapes. We told them it was brains and eyeballs. There were a lot of other scary things. Cathy and Cindy loved it.
We also became friends with Audrey and Bob Childs, who lived a couple blocks away. The Child's, Brownells, and Petrauskas girls, Cathy and Cindy also were our girl's age. The Brownells had two teenage kids. Beverly, the oldest, and a son named Rick. Beverly Brownell became our babysitter after we had Greg and Brad. She babysat for us every Friday while we lived there.
